SNAKEOUT™ loves animals of all shapes and sizes. We have our own collection of exotic reptiles, birds and arthropods which are used in education, captive breeding projects, or just living their best lives.

Exotic animals are a increasingly popular trend in the USA. People are getting into owning exotic birds, reptiles and amphibians. Many of these species can be fantastic animals to work with and care for. Many species are threatened in the wild and the captive exotic trade has led to better understandings of their behavior. However, exotic animals are not domestic species and the care on these animals is very complex. Many snakes and lizards need large enclosures. Reptiles and birds need correct lighting and vitamins to grow correctly. Reptile and bird lifespans can surpass their owners. Exotic animals also suffer from breeding seasons and behaviors that can be unpleasant to deal with. Many exotic keepers do a great job caring for their animals.

Sadly, some exotic animals are not cared for correctly and are neglected, surrendered or dumped/abandoned. Over the years, multiple exotics have come through us at
SNAKEOUT™
. Big snakes, small snakes, large lizards, small lizards, parrots, tortoises, and turtles have all been found or surrendered to SNAKEOUT™ and associates over the years. Many of these animals were found loose in California and are not adapted to the climate. These found exotics can become establish and become invasive species or spread exotic diseases to native wildlife. Some of these animals were simply brought to us by the owner or owner's family. Exotic care can get expensive and people give up. Some people buy animals as gifts and don't know the harm they are doing to the animal. Sometimes the owners pass and the animal is rehomed. Other times the kids got bored and the parents don't want to care with it.

SNAKEOUT™ is always happy to help. We have worked solo or with wildlife rescuers to capture escaped exotic species. We have worked with families who have had to surrender animals. We have paid for the treating of these exotics out of our own pockets to try and give sick and neglected animals a second chance. We work with rescue facilities, experienced keepers, and more to assist in helping rescues get the best care needed. Animals are held for 35 days to try and locate missing owners. If the animal is surrendered or the owner couldn't be located, animals can be put to adoption or transferred to appropriate facilities. We work to find homes with trusted people or facilities where the animal can live the rest of their lives.

If you have found a non native animal, please WATCH it and call us immediately (9253660607)!
Be careful picking up the animal. Some animals (large birds, snakes or lizards) can cause major damage if provoked. There is no harm in sending a photo of the animal and watching from a distance.

If you wish to surrender an animal, please do not feel ashamed. You are doing the right thing and caring for the animal. Sometimes we can help sort out the reason for the surrender. We can help put you in connection with appropriate vets who can possibly rectify the issue. However, if you really do want to surrender an animal we understand and are happy to help.

NOTE* - We only take in legal to own exotics. We cannot assist with prohibited species.
